33. Serena Williams

2016 is more than halfway gone, but that doesn’t mean it was a good year. We lost some great people and lost respect for even more. One that hopefully stays safe from that is Serena Williams.

Williams is easily the greatest female athlete who ever lived. She has dominated the world of tennis from age 14 and hasn’t looked back since. Recently, she broke the record for all-time Grand Slam wins, passing Roger Federer with 308 wins. She’s an Olympic athlete who until 2016 was undefeated with her sister which didn’t really bother Williams. Despite all of her successes, she still isn’t afraid to fail and learn from those failures. Being named the number one female tennis player in the world, six times doesn’t come without that either.

She isn’t just a talented athlete, though. She’s a business woman, fashion mogul, actress and writer. There’s seemingly nothing Williams can’t do especially with her work ethic. 2016 was a great year for Serena Williams even without Olympic medals.

Over the years, she has become one of the greatest athletes but the most admirable characteristics is her courage. In 2015, she returned to Indian Wells after being taunted by racist hecklers. Even if she doesn’t get as far in the US Open, here’s hoping 2016 leaves Serena the hell alone, and lets her become an even more dynamic woman!
