34. Simon Le Bon
I may be in the minority here, but I firmly believe that Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran is one of the greatest vocalists and lyricists of all time. Come at me then. He’s also still damn fine at 57-years-old, and can pull off white pants better than anyone else I’ve ever seen.
A sex symbol and a wild boy in the 1980s (and today, if you ask me), Le Bon has had a knack for putting himself in harm’s way in the past – he was trapped underwater while filming a music video, and his yacht capsized during a race, trapping him and his crew for forty minutes. Seriously, keep this man away from water. It’s out to get him.
It’s been 31 years since his last brush with death, and I would very much prefer it if he kept it that way. He’s still as active, if not more so, in the music industry as he was when everyone first began singing along to Rio in 1982. Duran Duran has just wrapped up their latest North American tour, and are undoubtedly planning to return to the studio at some point in the future to commence work on their fifteenth studio album. There are few acts from the 1980s that are still making relevant music, and I know that I’m not alone when I say that I want Duran Duran to be around forever, and Duran Duran would be a very different group without their charismatic frontman.
Suffice to say, I would be absolutely devastated if 2016 claimed Simon. The man has been a fixture on my discmans, mp3 players, and iPhones for over fifteen years now, and I don’t even want to imagine a world without him in it. I don’t think 2016 has any plans for Simon … let’s just maybe keep him away from bodies of water?
