31. Bill Murray

There are some celebrities who are legendary just for being themselves. Bill Murray is one of those actors who can play any role in any film and always draw a built-in audience simply because he is Bill Freaking Murray. He is one of the funniest actors around, yet he has also managed to pull off some great dramatic roles in more recent years.

At 65 years old it almost seems as though he has been around for a thousand years of cinematic history. He’s played countless iconic roles in some of my favorite movies of all time, and I think if he ever died it would destroy my ability to ever fully enjoy those movies again. From Ghostbusters to Lost In Translation, Groundhog Day to Rushmore, Stripes to The Life Aquatic, no one can top his talent and versatility.

I want to believe he is immortal and will continue to bring me unexpected joy for the next thousand years as I tune into some random indie flick and discover that he plays a surprising role in it. Could Wes Anderson make another movie without a Bill Murray part? I don’t even want to think about it. The older he gets and the more beloved icons are brutally ripped away from us in 2016, the more I worry.

I continue to hold out hope that I’ll get my own crazy real life encounter with him that no one else will ever believe. Until I have the chance to party and sing karaoke with Mr. Murray, he has to stay alive. He simply has to!
