8. Indira Varma
Most audiences may not be entirely familiar with Indira Varma, but she’s held a lot of crucial roles on television over the years – from HBO’s Rome to her fated role as the wife of Idris Elba (hey, there’s a #NextBond connection for you) on Luther. However, it was her most recent arc as the vicious and seductive matriarch of Dorne on Game of Thrones that solidified her as a potential option to be a new James Bond.
On Game of Thrones, Varma’s Ellaria Sand is the mother of the Sand Snakes, a group of strong female warriors – and eventually, her concern for her children’s safety is what drives her to act in their best interests as she overthrows the reigning prince of Dorne and finishes out the season in full control. As Ellaria Sand, Varma plays both the captivating lover and the diabolical ruler – and while these personality traits would also make her perfectly suited for a villainess role I’d argue that she could bring those qualities to a darker incarnation of James Bond. After all, part of Bond’s success lies in his ability to play other people and to beat them at their own game.
