9. Kate Beckinsale

This actress absolutely has expertise in playing women who kick ass. One of Kate Beckinsale’s best-known roles is that of the vampire Selene in the ongoing Underworld franchise; her role in the first film, which premiered in 2003, broke her out of her previous typecasting as an actress who only did romance films and rom-coms- and certified her as a powerful leading lady as well as a bonafied action star. She later went on to reprise the role in several more of the Underworld films, including the newest movie which will be released early next year.

Although Beckinsale has proven time and time again that she can take on the supernatural, she also recently earned critical acclaim for her role in a Jane Austen adaptation called Love & Friendship. Part of what makes James Bond such an iconic character is his ability to blend the action along with the humor; Beckinsale’s recent filmography more than implies she can do the same. Besides, it would be even more satisfying to have an actress who initially started out as playing the love interest propelling into a role where she gets to have the ladies swooning over her.
