7. Margaery’s (Third) Wedding Gown (Season 5)

Weddings are where this show really pulls out all the stops when it comes to costuming. That’s true even when it comes to a hasty montage of a wedding like Margaery’s third set of nuptials in four seasons. (To be fair, at least we saw these nuptials at all. Her first marriage to Renly was off screen.) Her wedding to Tommen might not have taken up the entire back half of an episode like her second marriage to Joffrey. But it was still a royal affair, and the gowns and images from it had to at least rival her last wedding.

So how did they choose to differentiate this one? It’s part and parcel with Margaery’s determination to make herself visually one with Tommen. She married Joffrey in a gown that screamed pride in her own House. She is a proud Tyrell there, all blue and roses and thorns. This time, she wears a gown that speaks of how she is cleaving to her new (and last) husband. She is in Baratheon gold and brown, with swirled armor like appliques, as if to say “come and take this position from me if you dare.”
