8. The Lannister Armor

If you’re going to be a soldier going into battle, you want to be Team Lannister. As befitting the richest House in Westeros, their armor is also the most impressive. The helmets have the face that swings open on hinges. There are the huge lion crests carved on the shoulders and elbows. These are a stunning sight marching into battle or down the road in a column. I love the expensive details, like the fact that the inside of the face flaps are lacquered red with the gorgeous filigree for air holes.

But enough about the helmet. Take a look at this closeup detail of the armor in this Joffrey promo shot. Note the regal lions on either side of the bodice. Take a good look at the huge circle collar, also heavily embellished with lions and filigree work. Of course, Joffrey, who is too chicken to appear in battle, only ever wears the chest piece of the armor. (Unlike his Grandfather, who wears the entire set to slaughter his enemy, once it’s clear which side of the battle he should join in order to win.) Personally, I’m glad to see Jaime’s donned it again, and I hope he wears it more in Season 7.
