12. Arya’s Braavosi Girl Look (Season 5)

Jon Snow getting a new outfit in Season 6 was the biggest thing to ever happen to his character. His favorite little sister went through the same experience only the year before. She finally got to take off those boy’s clothes she had been wearing ever since the end of Season 1. Finally, new clothes, and female ones to boot! But she didn’t just trade them in. She threw them off the edge of the dock in front of The House of Black and White! She got in return….boring black apprentice clothes.

It wasn’t until Arya was allowed to become “someone else” that she finally got an outfit worth looking at. Arya’s Braavosi girl outfit wasn’t just a brand new look. It was one that took a step forward in defining Braavos in the viewer’s minds. The hairstyle of the top buns was both eye-catching. They’re also utterly foreign to ones we’ve seen elsewhere in the Seven Kingdoms, or in Essos. Her woven bolero jacket and full skirt with the netting accessory took inspiration from 19th century Russia. (That’s a completely different fashion palate from anywhere else.) I’m only sorry we didn’t get to see more of Braavos before the show decided to cut Arya’s time there short and send her back across the Narrow Sea.
