48. Quaithe (Season 2)
Who is Quaithe? What is Quaithe? She’s a character who most fans forgot about until recently. Her streamlined appearance in Season 2 during Dany’s stay in Qarth took on new significance, now that Ser Jorah is looking for a cure to greyscale. Most who did remember her from before (those who aren’t book readers anyway) did so because she sported one of the shows most stunning and memorable looks, with this beautiful gold and bronze segmented metal mask.
This is a change from the books, where her mask is red and black, and not made of metal at all, but is lacquered wood. The image I had was something of the old style Grecian mask, or perhaps the Mask of Anarchy. Perhaps due to Anonymous owning that symbol as the “Guy Fawkes mask” after V for Vendetta, perhaps the show felt it would be better to go in a completely different direction. Instead, they gave her something that made one wonder what she was hiding under those metal hexagons. Could it be her own case of healed greyscale, a la Shireen? Or does it protect her from the diseases she can heal? Could she be the one to help Jorah?
