1. Jaws, with Katee Sackhoff

Sackhoff has already taken on the role of a big city cop who’s been displaced to a much quieter part of the U.S.; she currently stars as sheriff’s deputy Vic Moretti on the Netflix pickup show Longmire. We’ve also seen her kick major cylon butt as Starbuck on the reimagined Battlestar Galactica (where, coincidentally, she played a character who was a man in the original version). In my mind and in my heart, she’d be perfect for this.

Don’t get me wrong; Jaws is a classic, and one of my favorite movies of all time. However, as I rewatched it again for the bazillionth time I was struck by what a dude-heavy film it is. Sackhoff could step into the role originated by Roy Scheider with the kind of believability and authority that would befit a local police chief who has to put up with an unfortunately timed shark attack before the 4th of July. As for secondary character casting options, how about Meryl Streep or Judi Dench for the beleaguered shark hunter Quint? Just for kicks: let’s have them take on a female shark too, while we’re at it. (Maybe refrain from any obvious period jokes, please.)
