18 – This Is What You Came For – Calvis Harris ft. Rihanna

I’ll be the first to admit that “This Is What You Came For” is not the most stellar number I’ve heard this summer. Don’t get me wrong–Rihanna offers a noble performance as she so often does. Her vocals are overtuned and the lyrics are terribly repetitive, but neither of these faults belong to her. Rihanna is smooth and enticing enough for anyone, and then there’s that gentle sass that comes into play in the music video.

No, I have a problem with the repetitive lyrics and sound, even if the house feel and its tropical undertones (perfect for summertime) lends itself to that repetition so you have something to groove to. Yet in spite of my dislike of this song in general, I keep hearing it, and every time I hear it I feel slightly more inclined to move along with it. It’s probably Rihanna, slowly singing her way into my heart.
