Cursed Child Performances Announced for Lumos Benefit Gala

Lumos and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child team up for benefit performances September 18th, complete with J.K. Rowling in attendance to introduce the show.

Lumos, J.K. Rowling’s charity to benefit orphaned children around the world, announced this morning that it is teaming up with the producers of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child to raise money via a special gala set of performances of the show this coming September. Hosted at the London Palace Theater, this Lumos Benefit Gala will feature special performances of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts 1 and 2.

The gala will be held September 18th of this year, and will not only have a special showing of the two halves of the show, but also Rowling herself. She will be on hand to personally introduce the play at the top of each performance.

Georgette Mulheir, CEO of Lumos said: “Intuitively, we know that children need families to thrive, but it’s the decades of evidence that shows us the profound harm that being deprived of a family life and placed in an orphanage can do to a child’s intellectual, physical and psychological development. This special gala performance is not only a wonderful opportunity for fans to see the play but it will help raise awareness of the vulnerable, voiceless children living in orphanages around the world and play its part in helping to get them home and back to a loving family, where they belong.”

Tickets are available by auction now on the Lumos website.

For those who missed out on buying tickets for Cursed Child when they went on sale originally last fall, this is another chance to get seats to see it this year. Currently the rest of the run for 2016 is completely sold out.

There are several packages available to bid on, including everything from a pair of tickets to a package of 12 tickets. Each package also comes with a special bonus prize. These prizes include a souvenir signed brochure, a rare fabric Hogwarts Map or an issue of the Quibbler created by MinaLima, tickets to the aftershow party, a signed copy of the Cursed Child script, rare first editions of The Tales of Beetle the Bard,  a private backstage tour of the show and hotel accommodations. Current bidding prices are anywhere from £170 to £2,000, all of which go to benefit Lumos.
