Rowling not doing book signings for Cursed Child or Fantastic Beasts scripts

J.K. Rowling will not be doing book signings for the scripts for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

There are new Harry Potter books on the way…sort of. This summer, the rehearsal script for Harry Potter and Cursed Child, the upcoming play that continues the adventures of Harry and friends, will be released. Then, in November, people will be able to buy the script for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the upcoming movie spin-off of the series.

J.K. Rowling herself wrote the script for Fantastic Beasts, but only came up with some of the ideas for Cursed Child—playwright John Tiffany took on writing duties for that one. Either way, this is the closest thing fans are likely to get to new Harry Potter books anytime soon.

But they’re not really Harry Potter books. If they were, J.K. Rowling would likely go on tour and promote them with signings and such. But according to a statement from publishers, that won’t be the case with these scripts.

J.K. Rowling won’t be doing any publicity or signings specifically for the script book or any of her Wizarding World publishing.

Still, this doesn’t mean that Rowling won’t do press for Fantastic Beasts or Cursed Child. She’s arguably the most well-known face involved with either of those projects, surpassing even Fantastic Beasts stars Eddie Redmayne and Colin Ferrell, so the producers will surely want her involved.

For those who want to see Rowling do press for a new Harry Potter book, hope will have to sustain them. With the Fantastic Beasts script under her belt, she at least seems open to the idea of returning to that world, so who knows what could happen in the years to come?
