Eddie Redmayne and Colin Farrell Talk Fantastic Beasts

Eddie Redmayne and Colin Farrell reveal a bit about the joy of working on Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.

More videos are leaking out of CinemaCon, where last week, the cast of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them attended to help hype the coming first installment of the trilogy. Eddie Redmayne, as the face of the franchise, was on hand to talk about his character, Newt Scamander, and the excitement of working on the production.

Redmayne’s response to if he “had fun” making the movie says it all: “It was an exciting amount of fun. From the moment I read the script, J.K. Rowling has done something so unique. It has so many different genres – it’s kind of dark, funny and light, emotional, and all of these things, that I just found it the most riveting read. I hope that if could keep true to her script, then we’re OK.”

Check out the video of the entire interview:

Redmayne wasn’t the only major star on hand. Colin Farrell, who is arguably the only other major name on the production before it started was also in attendance. His interview follows Redmayne’s (which, in this half of the video begins with an interruption from Will Smith, who was there for Warner Brothers’ other major release this year, Suicide Squad.)

Farrell admitted recently he’s never read the books. At the Mercedes Benz Mexico City Fashion Week for Fall 2016, he was asked about working on such an esteemed franchise. (Original link in Spanish.)

“I love the Harry Potter films, I love them. I’ve never read the books, my sister read them all. I know, I’m a slacker.”

He added that Percival Graves is “an incredibly powerful wizard,” and “I’m there to investigate crimes against wizards, against any type of dark magic among the wizarding community.”

Redmayne, on the other hand, is a lifelong fan.

“As a kid, I used to read the books, and I used to watch the films when they came out. It began a ritual. I saw the [Fantastic Beasts] trailer the other day and it had the theme music, and a little part of me was having a disco inside.”

Hopefully the rest of us will share in that disco when the movie hits theaters this coming November.
