Star Wars Resistance: Why does the First Order want the Colossus?

In this week’s episode of Star Wars Resistance, we found out Captain Phasma and Major Vonreg are collaborating with pirates. Now, we’re curious about why the First Order wants the Colossus.

The game board is open and the pieces are set. On one side is the First Order, and on the other side is the rest of the galaxy. Slowly but surely, the First Order is moving pieces around while keeping its intentions secret.

The New Republic is well aware that the order exists, but this new and flourishing government firmly believes the First Order is not a threat to the galactic peace. They’re wrong, of course. But by the time they realize it, it’ll be too late, as seen with the destruction of the Hosnian system in The Forces Awakens.

Before any of that happens, however, the First Order in Star Wars Resistance is operating quietly in the shadows and collaborating with crime syndicates (as seen in the Bloodline novel by Claudia Gray) and with pirates. These shadowy groups are essentially doing the dirty work for the First Order.

In “The Triple Dark,” the goal of the pirates was to render the Colossus inoperable. Had they been successful, we imagine this would have forced Captain Imanuel Doza to contact someone for assistance. After all, that’s what Kragan Gorr, the pirate leader, meant when he said, “Pretty soon, Doza will be begging you to take control of the Colossus.”

We’ve seen tactics like this before going all the way back to the Separatists in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. One good example takes place on the planet Pantora. The Trade Federation creates a blockade, isolating the people from the rest of the Republic. This makes the Pantoran people upset because the Senate seems unsympathetic to their situation. That’s when Count Dooku steps in and offers aid to the planet if they join the Separatist Alliance.

We think this is what’s happening in Star Wars Resistance. The pirates (The Trade Federation) are terrorizing the people on the Colossus (Pantora), and Captain Phasma (Count Dooku) will eventually step in to offer them protection or a proposal to become part of the First Order (Separatist Alliance).

History has a way of repeating itself, but we’re still curious about what makes the Colossus so special to the First Order. Is it because it’s in a strategic location? It could be that, but we think it’s because of the fuel. The Colossus is an aircraft refueling station. It even looks like a giant oil rig in the middle of the ocean. It could be the First Order wants this resource to fuel its fleet.

How else will it get their ships up in the air and through space to follow through with its nefarious plans of taking back the galaxy?

As for how Kaz will put the pieces together, we get the feeling one of the pirates might serve as the connection. Her name is Synara San, and she makes her first appearance in this episode as Kragan’s second-in-command. In past trailer footage, we’ve see her standing near Kaz during an attack or arrest of some kind. As a spy, Kaz needs to start gathering intel for the Resistance, so could she be his source of information?

We’ll have to wait and see if we’re right, but until then, the next brand-new episode of Star Wars Resistance airs on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on the Disney Channel.
