NFL Pro Bowl’s Kiss Cam Message Is ‘Love Has No Labels’

The NFL and the Ad Council join forces in a powerful PSA about how love comes in various forms. Get you tissues ready because the video is moving.

Kiss cams have been a staple of arenas and stadiums for years. It’s meant to be a fun diversion for ticket holders during a slow part of a game like a timeout or during halftime. However, in recent years the kiss cam has taken a life of its own. It’s not unusual for the news or even late night television shows to reveal kiss cam footage. (That’s doubly true if it’s very embarrassing like a marriage proposal gone wrong.) Other funny but awkward kiss cam situations that have gone viral include moments when the camera zooms in on brothers and sisters or friends. Even former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama made the kiss cam.

One thing the kiss cam has been accused of is excluding gay or lesbian couples due to concerns of the public’s reaction. In the kiss cam’s 30-year history, gay couples didn’t really start appearing until 2011. For example, Dodger Stadium didn’t have a gay couple until 2014. The Ad Council and the NFL are looking to change that with this new ad for the “Love Has No Labels” campaign. The ad launched earlier this week. It comes from this year’s NFL Pro Bowl game. The results are amazing. Check out the video below.

This isn’t the first Ad Council video to make an impact for this campaign. No one can forget wrestler turned actor John Cena’s impassioned video called “We Are America.” The Ad Council’s “Diversity & Inclusion” video is another great ad. The latter has almost 60 million views on YouTube. However, this might be the most powerful ad to date. While we believe in the Ad Council’s text in the ad, “Love has no religion, no age, gender or disability and no race,” we wait for the day that becomes a reality for everyone.
