Last week’s episode of Scandal showed us another side of Cyrus Beene, a man we’ve known more than six seasons already. Of course, Tom’s been around just as long but he’s always been a bit of a mystery to the viewers. First, he played President Fitzgerald Grant’s loyal member of the secret service. But once we learned about B613, we discovered that Tom answered to Rowan Pope. And at Pope’s request, Tom killed President Grant’s son.

As of last week’s episode, Tom’s next target appears to be Cyrus, who was previously his lover. (Yeah, you had to be there.) Basically, Cyrus is learning quickly that Tom’s depth of evil far surpasses his own. Obviously, this is one of Scandal‘s best twists. While the show’s not short of strategically dastardly villains, Tom is like the anti-Jake Ballard. He carries twice the skill and half the sympathy for others. It’s truly remarkable.

"Cyrus faces a big challenge, but that does not deter him from trying to prove he’s not guilty. Meanwhile, Olivia and her team unearth surprising new evidence relating to the evening Frankie got shot."

Watching Olivia dig into this is truly entertaining, but now that Mellie’s in line to become the next president, she’s going to have her hands full getting back into the Oval Office.
