Victoria Season 1, Episode 3 Synopsis: Boys? Who Said Anything About Boys?

On the third episode of Victoria, Her Majesty will have to deal with a family visit with some serious implications in the form of one Albert.

Note: Need a reminder of what happened on the second episode of Victoria? Here’s our recap of “Brocket Hall”.

Well, “Brocket Hall” got a touch awkward. We won’t pretend otherwise. Lord Melbourne had to let not only a 19-year-old, but also his sovereign, down gently, even though he also sort of had feelings for her too? It was awkward all around. Let’s just get to the next episode, shall we?

Although the episode actually has the title of “The Clockwork Prince”, according to TVGuide, “Boys? Who Said Anything About Boys?” may actually be a reasonable alternative title. You see, here’s what’ll happen, per Masterpiece’s own schedule:

"“One of Victoria’s suitors pays a surprise visit, igniting the queen’s fiery temper and earning her disdain.”"

TVGuide doesn’t even bother to hide that it’s Prince Albert, by the way. Neither did the preview that Masterpiece aired after “Brocket Hall”.

No, it’s time for our actual love interest to step in and clear away the weirdness between Melbourne and Victoria. This will actually be a plot point, by the way. If you’ll recall, Victoria’s husband will likely play a huge role in influencing how she thinks about politics. Right now, Melbourne enjoys a similar position. That’ll change when she gets married. Everyone’s started talking about it already.

Of course, Victoria has just had her heart crushed, and so likely won’t be receptive to any attempts to woo her. She’s also already spoken about how she didn’t like Albert the last time she saw him, and how could he possibly have improved in the ensuing time? (Presumably he has, though.) Moreover, she really didn’t want him to come anyway.

Yet there he is!

What an auspicious start.
