Debra Messing Says Will & Grace Reboot Is Still “Just Talks”

Bad news fans, Debra Messing says the Will and Grace reboot is “nothing beyond talks,” and we’re crying real tears of disappointment over here.

It’s tough to have to deal with disappointment this early in a new year, but it looks like the Will & Grace reboot is not as much of “done deal” than we hoped.

Earlier this week, Leslie Jordan, also known as Beverly Leslie, gave an interview with KPBS in San Diego. The supporting player told the interviewer the NBC sitcom received a ten episode order from the network. You’ll remember Leslie as Karen Walker’s pint-sized, Southern-accented archenemy. In response to questions about the reboot, Jordan said “It’s back. Here’s the way it works: [NBC] has ordered 10 [episodes]. It’ll be for next season, so they’ll go in in July.”

Rumors have been flying for a while, and even Megan Mullally weighed in on the possibility, saying, “there’s a really good chance.” Debra Messing is telling a different story. After Leslie’s interview, Debra Tweeted a rebuttal, “Sadly Leslie was wrong. Nothing beyond talks.”

To add a little intrigue to the saga, Messing told People magazine back in September that she has a pretty specific vision, if a revival were to happen. She said, “If there was a Will & Grace 2.0, my wish is that we did 10 [episodes] on, like, Netflix or Amazon or somewhere where it could be the naughty version of Will & Grace.”

The civic-minded sitcom often pushed boundaries when it aired from 1998-2006, and it was the only show airing that featured gay main characters. The Will & Grace rumor machine really cranked up in October when the cast reunited for an election-themed YouTube episode.

It’s hard to know if the YouTube short was the start of the reboot rumors, or if it’s just publicity for it, but either way, I’ve got my hopes up for a new Will & Grace series in 2017.
