Here are the ten best-for-women TV shows either premiering or returning this fall!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year:  fall TV season!  But in a media culture that prioritizes the white male experience, it can be tough to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to positive representation of women.

Every year, we get inundated with wives, mothers, and romantic interests who seem to have no interior lives.  These female characters serve to move along the plot for the male protagonists, nagging them or boosting them up, as though that’s all they have to do with themselves.  We truly have to work to find the kind of women we want to see on screen:  complex, powerful, flawed, funny, damaged, amazing.  Women like us.

Luckily, you have Culturess!  And we did the work for you!

Some of these shows are returning for a new season, so they’ve already proven themselves to be feminist media touchstones.  Some of them are brand new,  but promise to represent women positively and complexly based on the creators’ past work.  But all of them make us really excited about the future of women in television.

So, grab some snacks, get comfy in front of your TV, and prepare to smash the pop-culture patriarchy!
